Billy Wayne Starnes

Billy Wayne Starnes, 80, passed to eternity April 11, 2018 in Memphis after battling a lingering illness. Born October 11, 1937 to Reber and Bessie Joyner Starnes, Bill graduated Millington High School and Memphis State. He taught at Westwood High School before pursuing a long career with the Navy, becoming a Naval Reserve Commander and working with the Naval Air Maintenance Training Group at NAS Millington until his retirement. Bill was a lay leader at Embury Methodist Church where he attended for more than 30 years. He was also a 32nd Degree Shriner. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Maurice Starnes, and by a beloved son-in-law, Lee Barker. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy; a daughter, Tonya Barker of Brighton, TN; a son, Wayne Starnes of Lakeland, TN; four grandsons, Corey Barker (Kristina) of Nashville, Aaron Barker (Kelly) of Fairbanks, AK, Kevin Starnes (Valerie) of Boulder, CO and Bradley Barker of Nashville; two granddaughters, Lauren Starnes of Crystal River, FL and Lyndsey Barker Skinner (Adam) of Brighton, TN. The things Bill valued most were his children, grandchildren, God and country. He will be missed by his family and countless friends.
