Robert Nichols Elkins (Nick), a loving husband, father and grandfather passed away after a short illness on January 15, 2018.He was born December 4, 1944 to Robert Elkins, Jr. and Connie Buie Elkins in Pine Bluff, AR. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School and has continued to stay friends with many of his alumni. Nick is survived by his wife Sandie Elkins, daughter Tracey (Mark) Roland of Keller, TX, sons Jeremy Giles, Denton, TX and Kevin Giles, Munford, TN, grandsons Austin Roland and Paul Giles, sisters Sherron (Steve) Shroyer, Maumelle, AR, Betty (Lee) Tomboulian, Ridgewood, NY, Cynda Bellamy, Albuquerque, NM, aunt Lauralyn Buie-Jamison, Dover-Foxcroft, ME, nieces, nephews, and cousins.Following high school he studied engineering at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. His love of computers and problem solving led him to a long satisfying career in various IT positions. This career started with installing Simmons Bank’s first computer system. In 1965 he went to work for Arkla Gas Company (now Centerpoint Energy) for 25 years eventually holding the title of VP. In 1991, Nick moved to Nashville, TN to work for SCB Computer Technology, an IT consulting company. While working as a part of the senior management team, he opened their Dallas, TX office where he stayed until he relocated with them to Memphis, TN. His final position prior to retirement was as an IT Consultant for his wife’s company, AITC. Sandie once told him that she loved that he was doing the work and she got the pay. His humorous reply as he winked at her was: “It has been that way since we got married, so what’s the difference?”He was a quiet, sweet man with many talents and gifts. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and cut-up with his friends and family. There was little he could not fix or repair if he put his mind to it. He had a lifetime love affair with cars and he has a Facebook folder of all the cars he had owned, starting with cars he and his Dad put together and rebuilt when he was still a teenager. He began collecting music with his Mom as a teenager, having sock hops in the living room after high school with his friends. He was a talented dancer who could bop or two-step with the best. He met wife Sandie when he asked her for a dance. He loved his iPods and all the music they could hold, especially his favorite band, the Eagles.Nick was one of those rare men that loved to shop. He could spend hours at the Mall with his daughter Tracey when she was a teenager. He was a sharp dresser and carried himself with style and class. He was above all a child of God and the loss of this special man to his family is incalculable. Our family’s St Nick is now a real saint.Cremation is being handled by Munford Funeral Home.
