Betty Downing Clark, 80, passed away peacefully and was received into the arms of her Savior on Monday, February 12, 2018. She was born August 17, 1937, in Randolph, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard McAfee and Ruby Lawson McAfee and a sister, Jane Dyer. She is survived by her loving husband, Everett Clark of 16 years who was retired from the IC Railroad; her children, John Fredrick Downing III (Geneva) of Brighton, TN, Vicky Downing Haywood (Jim) of Munford, TN, Michael Gordon Downing (Renee) of Quito, TN, Lee Boyd Downing (Jennifer) of Covington, TN, Melissa Anne Downing of Cordova, TN; grandchildren, Melissa Dawn Haywood, April Downing White (Matt), Kendall James Downing, Walton Lee Downing, Kaitlyn Michelle Downing, Weston Jefferson Downing; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Wallace McAfee (Nelda) of Oak Ridge, TN, Sherry McAfee Frahm (Will) of Redding, CA, Jim McAfee (Roxanne) of Oakland, TN; his children, Everett Clark Jr. (Toni) of Collierville, TN, Debbie Clark Wilson (David) of Memphis, TN, Bill Lovell of Cordova, TN; his grandchildren, David Wilson Jr, Laura Wilson Swann (David), Joey Cannon (Stacy); five great-grandchildren. Betty was a wife and mother who loved, cared and faithfully provided for her family. She loved the Lord and served in various ministries within her local church and community. She retired from The Delfield Company in 1995. Since 2001 she served as a “Pink Lady” for Methodist North Hospital encouraging the sick. She said it was a “joy calling on those ill to offer a word of encouragement and whisper a prayer on their behalf”. She was a City of Millington volunteer for 20 years in coordination with the Baker Community Center and assisted with the monthly senior dances. The family will receive friends Friday (Feb 16) from 11:00am until the service at 1:00pm at the Millington Chapel. Interment to follow in Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Covington, the Memphis Union Mission or the MidSouth Food Bank.
